The City of Houston Texas Gets Hacked….On Purpose!
On Friday May 17, 2013, Justin Villasenor Concepcion invited us to cover the City of Houston’s first Open Invitation Hackathon. What thoughts come to mind when you hear the word “hacker” or “something has been hacked”? I’m guessing you have visions of nerds going rogue and doing very, very bad things online. While this is true in some cases, the term “hacker” is also used to mean playful, exploratory programming.
To engage the hackers, solve problems and help build the overall technological infrastructure, The City of Houston Texas hosted its first 24 hour hackathon. Day one kicked off on Friday night with a party that included beer, food, networking and some hacking. Day two was pure business featuring projects, presentations and pitches.
